all women were bigger and stronger than you
and thought they were smarter
women were the ones who started wars
too many of your friends had been raped by women wielding giant dildos
and no K-Y Jelly
the state trooper
who pulled you over on the New Jersey Turnpike
was a woman
and carried a gun
the ability to menstruate
was the prerequisite for most high-paying jobs
your attractiveness to women depended
on the size of your penis
every time women saw you
they’d hoot and make jerking motions with their hands
women were always making jokes
about how ugly penises are
and how bad sperm tastes
you had to explain what’s wrong with your car
to big sweaty women with greasy hands
who stared at your crotch
in a garage where you are surrounded
by posters of naked men with hard-ons
men’s magazines featured cover photos
of 14-year-old boys
tucked into the front of their jeans
and articles like:
“How to tell if your wife is unfaithful”
“What your doctor won’t tell you about your prostate”
“The truth about impotence”
the doctor who examined your prostate
was a woman
and called you “Honey”
you had to inhale your boss’s stale cigar breath
as she insisted that sleeping with her
was part of the job
you couldn’t get away because
the company dress code required
you wear shoes
designed to keep you from running
And what if
after all that
women still wanted you
to love them.
For the Men Who Still Don’t Get It, written 20 years ago by Carol Diehl.
She wrote a post about the history of this poem that is worth reading.
Can someone explain to me the basis behind Sally x Sherlock ship? I’m not bashing, but I just don’t get it. Someone explain.
People have different reasons, but for the most part I think that for most people it’s all about the backstory,…
It has nothing to do with race. It has to do with the fact that she blamed him for every damn murder and kidnapping that got put on her desk.
She’s not a good person.
The first thing she said to Sherlock about John was “Did he follow you home?” Seriously, bitch.
Um, what? She blamed him for every murder and kidnapping? Did we watch a different show?
She didn’t blame him for Jennifer Wilson’s death. She said that she thought he was the type who might one day commit murder, but that’s not the same thing.
She thought he was guilty of a crime that Moriarty went to GREAT PAINS to set him up for.
I don’t know how you can say Sally is “not a good person” and not say the same thing about Sherlock. Seriously, she’s not a good person for asking if Sherlock followed John home compared to ALL OF THE CRAP THINGS SHERLOCK HAS SAID TO PEOPLE?
Okay, I am just cranky enough to have to step up for Sally Donovan.
I have said this OVER AND OVER: If you look at Sally Donovan’s actions in TRF from an objective viewpoint, SHE DID THE RIGHT THING. She did exactly what any other good cop would do. She looked at the evidence. She used her knowledge of criminal profiles. Sherlock is a textbook case of someone who inserts himself into crime scenes—which is a huge red flag for criminal profilers. If the show was called “Sally” we’d be rooting for her for spotting the obvious criminal mastermind that her boss was ignoring because they were friends.
But because the show is called “Sherlock” she winds up in an antagonistic role. And, frankly, because she’s a black woman, she gets hatred. Don’t even try to say it’s because she was mean to Sherlock. MORIARTY is arguably much meaner to Sherlock, and everybody seems to freaking love him.
Yes, she called him a freak, and yes, that was wrong. Imagine this: Imagine you’re trying to do your job, and your boss lets his friend come into your workplace and get in the way. Furthermore, your boss’s friend makes obnoxious and sexually harassing comments to you, making your workplace a hostile one—AND YOU HAVE NO RECOURSE. He doesn’t officially work with you, and he’s your boss’s friend, so who are you going to complain to? So yeah, she got hostile right back, and frankly I can’t blame her. We’re not seeing their first interaction in ASiP, we’re seeing a long pattern of behavior, and if you don’t think Sherlock was the one who started the shit, you haven’t been watching the show.
As for the puppy picture, I did a photoshop breakdown of how I made it, because I had to make my case to Tumblr, after someone had reposted it, and Tumblr was arguing with me on whether or not I did any work to create a new picture. They told me that it didn’t count as original art.
“You’ll never get tired looking at Benedict Cumberbatch. With his soft, sensual appearance, the curly hair, and the strikingly curved lips, he radiates charisma. Not because he owns the clear-cut beauty of George Clooney but because he’s simply unforgettable. He resembles no-one and no-one resembles him. He is one of a kind, in the true sense of the word. And when he starts to act, then your faith in him becomes certainty: he’s tall but tiny, he stumbles yet he’s so graceful, he smiles seductively yet he is stone cold.”—
Politics. I’m just getting exhausted. I’m not closing the site, at least not yet, but it sure would be nice to be an uninformed citizen, wouldn’t it? I might take that up some day in the future. I feel like being engaged has aged my soul twice as fast as it otherwise would have.
But once you’ve taken the red pill, can you….regurgitate it and switch to blue? I’ve tried, with only limited success. Not having TV at home helps.
Last time Elizabeth was here, she saw our set of “Danger Mouse” DVDs on the shelf. She brought them to me and said “mouse” so I told her what they were called, and that we could watch them next time (they were leaving).
Right after she got here today, she started asking to watch “Dangerous Mouse.” Her mommy said she’s been talking about Dangerous Mouse all week.
This black dude was black-person-walking down the sidewalk in front of my shop, black shirt two sizes too large, pants sagging, ear buds in his ears, and he was rapping at the top of his lungs, just shouting for everybody to hear him. Like, Look at me, look at me, everybody, pay attention to me!
What the heck is wrong with those people? Why do they crave such attention? They’re soooo loud and inconsiderate.
I’ve been known to sing and dance down the grocery store aisles myself. Wasn’t because I wanted attention — I was just really happy, and not in a drug-induced way. And what’s wrong with wanting attention, anyway? Bravo for him, having the guts to just be who he is. If I was brave enough, I’d have short, fire-engine red hair and I’d sing like I was in a musical all the time.
But I’m middle-aged now, and I know I’d embarrass my family. Maybe I could claim dementia…..
“You see, fear is knowing you’re going to die”, he said, softly, as he tightened the iron shackles. “Horror is realizing you aren’t going to die soon enough.”—Two Sentence Horror Stories (via areyou-stillawake)
1) Since the only real marker for why nu!Uhura isn't such a solid character is "gets to have story lines or at the very least skills that are mostly about them rather than romantic partners", actually the entire TOS cast (yes, even Chekov/Sulu/Uhura) would pass, as well as the entire reboot cast /besides/ Uhura, who only got one (failed) moment in the second film while everyone else has been able to show off their badassness left and right, without having the majority of their (cont.)
screentime being used to deal with the issues of their romantic partner. 2) Age is not a determiner of intelligence, rationally, or ability, and saying so to try to one-up someone who happens to be younger than you is, if I may, extremely childish. 3) It is not bad for women to be in a romantic relationship. It is not bad for them to have storylines surrounding their feelings for another character. It is bad when they majority of their screentime is focused on that relationship, and more specifically on the /other/ person’s wants/needs/perspective, with their’s either being portrayed as wrong or unimportant. A good example: Alana from Hannibal has feelings for Will, and there are plot points surrounding that, but they mutually agree to hold off on a relationship for the time being (for in-show related reasons). And outside of that relationship, she gets to spend most of the show doing her job and expressing her own thoughts and opinions (and quite often, she’s right).
Even as President Obama and his administration are making a last minute push to encourage enrollment in Obamacare, a quiet change was made on the Healthcare.gov website regarding those who will still not be able to afford coverage after the program kicks in. From at least June 26, 2013 to as recently as
The page used to say “Where can I get free or low-cost care in my community?”
Now it says “Where can I get low-cost care in my community?”
but they didn’t change the URL — it still references ”free”
