big, fluffy detritus,

Posting and reblogging Star Trek, BBC Sherlock, vintage, retro, kitsch, abandoned places, Shatner, Nimoy & Kelley and anything else that fascinates me. And BUNNIES!

BTW, I'm a writer, so if I tend to put words together in the form of sentences, and occasionally, paragraphs - understand, it's the way I am.

NOTE: I do use the queue, just so you know: I'm not online as often as it seems.

holy **** i was just thinking of how you’re apparently “”“”supposed to”“”” spend two months’ salary on an engagement/wedding ring

and it just now hit me how much money that is!!!

in ontario if you’re working full time at minimum wage that’s over three thousand dollars???????????????????

HOLY ****

WEDDING TRADITIONS ARE REALLY WEIRD

THAT “RULE” IS SO ****ING WEIRD

THAT IS STUPID AMOUNTS OF MONEY AND ALL FOR A ROCK?!

And not just for ANY rock, but a rock ripped out of the ground usually with slave labor, with the proceeds going to finance war.

Yay wedding traditions!

^^^^.

I believe that “Rule” came from the diamond industry, so…YOUR ARGUMENT IS INVALID. ;-)

An engagement ring can be whatever the couple wants it to be — or you can skip it altogether. I don’t have one, and I’m fine with that — if I did, I’d never wear it for fear of losing it, or the diamond coming out. (I’ve known too many people that’s happened to.) The only wedding ring I ever had was a family heirloom: a plain gold band that my maternal grandmother gave me - she’d gotten when her Aunt Nettie, who’d never had children, passed away. I wear no ring now, as it hasn’t fit me for ages. I knew an elderly couple who married when they were in their 70s (their first spouses had both passed on). Instead of a ring, he bought a gold coin (a Kruggerand, I think) and had it made into a necklace which she wore constantly.

Don’t let Rules or Traditions tell you that you have to spend an outrageous amount of money on something that can be lost so easily, and in the Great Scheme of Things, falls into the category of Quite Unimportant to the Marriage.

Make your own tradition.
